The focus of deep tissue massage is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). This course will focus on the safe application of the deeper pressure and deeper techniques in releasing chronic muscle tension including draping and body mechanics.
There are many similarities between sports massage and deep tissue massage. Similar techniques and strokes are utilised by the therapist in both. The primary difference is that a sports massage is more specific in its tissue selection, its aim, and its intent.
Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body for optimal performance. Techniques that require no lubricant are introduced to address the connective tissue.
